Incentives & Feed In Tariffs

A range of solar incentives are available from The Federal Government and from your electricity provider to assist in reducing the cost of your solar system. Yellow Energy is committed to ensuring you receive the best possible return on your investment.

Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme

The Queensland Solar Bonus Scheme rewards eligible households and other small electricity customers that install solar power (photovoltaic – PV) renewable energy systems by paying them for the excess electricity their solar systems generate. When your meter is read, the amount of surplus electricity exported to the grid and the amount imported from the grid will be passed onto your electricity retailer. Any surplus will be credited to the electricity account for the property where the solar system is installed.

Incentives for excess electricity from your electrical retailer

If you have been approved for Queensland 44 cent Solar Feed in tariff (FIT) you will continue to receive this incentive from the Queensland Government.  Unfortunately this incentive is no longer available to  new customers, as the Queensland Government has withdrawn the feed in incentive for new schemes

However some electricity retailers offer up to an additional 8c on power fed back into the grid. It is advisable to contact your electricity retailer to find out what is on offer.

Federal Government incentive- Small Scale technology certificates (STC)

Yellow Energy is committed to ensuring you get the most out of the Government solar incentives

How it works – Point of sale discount (STCs)

Under the Federal Government initiative, STCs are generated by the customer when they purchase and install a solar panel system The number of STCs you receive will depend on your location and the size of your system. You can assign these STC’s to Yellow Energy to obtain a point of sale discount on your solar power system. Yellow Energy will then trade these STC through a broker on the open market.

To be eligible for STCs

  1. Your panels are installed by an accredited professional (Yellow Energy!)
  2. Your system is less than 100kW in size
  3. You use panels and inverters which are Australia Clean Energy Council approved

For more information visit http://ret.cleanenergyregulator.gov.au/About-the-Schemes/sres

Currently A 5kw system generates sufficient STC’s to reward you with up to $3300 in discounts.

Pool Tariff Assistance

This is one of a number of initiatives that are designed to move electricity use away from the residential peak demand period of 4pm to 8pm each day. Peak electricity demand is a key driver of electricity infrastructure expenditure and associated increases in electricity prices. The change will enable customers to help address the issue of peak demand while reducing their pool related electricity costs. Pool owners are therefore encouraged to use Tariff 33 for their pool. Tariff 33 is significantly cheaper than the general use tariff (Tariff 11), but supply is made available only for a minimum of 18 hours a day.

In the past pools were required to be permanently connected to the Electricity supply to qualify for Tariff 33. This meant that before any repairs/ servicing could be carried out on the pool equipment an electrician would first need to disconnect the power supply- a costly expense. New requirements allow pool filtration and sanitation systems which include pool pumps, pool filters, chlorinators and chlorine dispensing units to be plugged into a power point specifically connected to Tariff 33. This will make it easier for householders needing a pump repaired, as an electrician will no longer be required.

It does not apply to features such as lights, fountains, etc.

Owners are encouraged to contact their electricity provider, Ergon and Energex for more information. Some Electronic pool equipment may however require continuous power supply

Pool owners who currently use tariff 11 for their pool filtration system should consider changing from Tariff 11 to Tariff 33 to get the benefit of a cheaper rate. Call Yellow Energy call more information.
